The Carriage Inn has been sold again and the new owners have turned over the operation of the restaurants (Cafe P and Charlie's), but not the operation of the banquet rooms. If we were to continue to have meetings in Charlie's, we would have to share the room with the Cafe P breakfast crowd, and then when they start the remodel of Charlie's, we would have to meet in the Cafe P.
I have checked with Schooner's who no longer have the banquet room that Casey's had in that location. I spoke with the people still running Victoria's and they want a commitment for a certain number of people each month so they can provide a buffet (and nothing else) and we pay for that number of people, whether they show or not. Since we never know how many are coming to a meeting and how many are planning to eat (and I know some have a light breakfast), this was not an option to consider.
I spoke with the Grape Leaf. They can set up for 70 in their side room and if we have more, we can spill out into the restaurant for eating. They also said if we get large enough they can close the restaurant to all but our group. We can order from the menu and in the future if a number of people want a buffet they can work with us on that - they are very flexible.
So bottom line - for our next meeting, on Saturday 11 Jan 2014, we will be meeting at the Grape Leaf. For those who do not know where the Grape Leaf is, it is just west of the Carriage Inn on the corner of Drummond and N. Heritage Drive.
