Dear
Friends, I just wanted to drop a quick email to let you know that Burroughs High School accomplished its goal of raising $1000 for Bikers Against Diabetes! As of last Friday, we had $1103.32 to donate to the ADA in its fight against diabetes and they couldn't be happier. The pigs who were kissed by all those administrators and the two campus cops will never be the same! At the risk of repeating myself, if it hadn't been for your unselfish dedication to the cause by coming out last Monday in questionable weather, we would not have met the goal. The students and staff are still talking about the bike show and parade. You really made an impression. Just today, a young man asked me about the "pink bike!" I just happen to have a picture of him on Dwight's bike and I told him I would give him a copy. You should have seen his face! Another student who I have known for years, is an insulin dependent diabetic and kind of quiet about it. However, at the show/parade he kept hanging around and by Wednesday, he was helping out at the collection table and talking about diabetes. I think you all taught him something while you were there - support, acceptance, and the bright possibilities for his future. (A special thank you to Rex for openly discussing his battle with diabetes.) Thank you again for all of your support. Judy Gerard School Marm Burroughs High School |
